Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL)
Dallas Love Field is located about six miles northwest of downtown Dallas in Texas. The airport opened in 1917 and originally operated as a military airfield used for pilot training during World War I. Later, the facility transitioned into a civil aviation airport as commercial air travel expanded across the United States.
The airport gradually became an important domestic aviation center for the Dallas region. However, the opening of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974 shifted most international and long-haul airline operations to that airport. As a result, Dallas Love Field primarily serves domestic routes today.
The airport covers approximately 1,300 acres and operates a single passenger terminal with 20 gates. It handles more than 15 million passengers annually. In addition, Southwest Airlines maintains its headquarters and largest operational base at Dallas Love Field, which explains the high volume of domestic flights from this airport. Modern terminal upgrades and efficient ground transportation connections support passenger movement throughout the Dallas metropolitan area.
